A correctly performed microsurgical vasectomy reversal is one of the most technically challenging surgeries in urology and perhaps all of medicine. The goal is for the urologic microsurgeon to precisely reconnect the previously damaged and surgically prepared ends of the vas together in precise 3 to 4 layers by placing more than 2 dozen delicate individual microsutures under a high-power surgical microscope. This will allow sperm to once again flow through the vas to restore fertility after vasectomy.
Dr. Marks wrote the only textbook for doctor teaching them how to perform vasectomy reversals, the ASRM certification course on vas reversals as well as teaching round-table discussions on reverse vasectomies and another on epididymal bypass (vasoepididymostomy) techniques.
